Points or Points of Interest (POI) represents an object with a single coordinate on the map. This object can be a clinic, a police station or school. Points cannot be placed far away from a road (polyline) to enable successful autorouting so the best position to put the point is where the entry gate of the place is, even though the place itself covers a large area.
To add a point in the map you’re editing in GPSmapedit, follow these steps:
1. Zoom into the map to the area where you want to add the point and make sure the map scale is between 20m to 30m (map scale is at the bottom left of the map window – see pic below)
2. Make sure you are on Zoom Level 0 (zero) – View Menu > Zoom Levels > Level 0 (zoom level is at the bottom of the map window – see pic below)
3. Choose Tools Menu > Create Object > Point
4. Click on the entrance of the place you want to add on the map
5. Choose the point type
6. Enter the point label. GPSmapedit allows you to enter the point label directly on the map if you have just created a new point. If you made a spelling mistake, use the Select Object tool (Tools Menu > Select Objects) and double click on the point to change its label under the Properties Tab.
7. If you have the full address of the point and its phone number, double click using the Select Objects (Tools Menu > Select objects) on the point you just created and enter these data in the Address and Phone Tab respectively.
