Drawing Roads

Roads or polylines are continuous array of linked points with two endpoints. A road can be a trail, an alleyway, a residential street, a roundabout or a highway.

To draw a road in the map you’re editing in GPSmapedit, follow these steps:

1. Zoom into the map to the area where you want to add the point and make sure the map scale is between 20m to 30m (map scale is at the bottom left of the map window – see pic below)

2. Make sure you are on Zoom Level 0 (zero) – View Menu > Zoom Levels > Level 0 (zoom level is at the bottom of the map window – see pic below)

3. Choose Tools Menu > Create Object > Polyline

4. Click on the start of the road then move your cursor to the next point. You will notice a trailing line follows your cursor. If the road is a short straight road, click on the end of the road and hit Enter on your keyboard to finish the line. If your road is a curved road, follow the curve of the road until the end and click Enter on your keyboard to finish the line.

5. Choose the polyline type

6. Enter the polyline label. GPSmapedit allows you to enter the polyline label directly on the map if you have just created a new polyline. If you made a spelling mistake, use the Select Object tool (Tools Menu > Select Objects) and double click on the polyline to change its label under the Properties Tab.
