Tracking Points

When tracking a point or points-of-interest, bring your digital camera along. Synchronize the time on your digital camera to that of the GPS. Don’t worry if the time difference between your digital camera and your GPS is different in seconds as when you synchronize the digital photos you’ve taken to the GPS tracklogs, you have the option of entering a time offset.

Once both clocks are synchronized, begin taking a few photos of road intersections to act as a reference point for your time offset.

Tracking points can be done at the same time as tracking roads. All you need to do is snap a picture of road signs and place names such as banks, schools and petrol stations. Set your digital camera for speed priority if you plan to track points while on the move. This prevents blurring of the photos. Make sure you do not track points while driving as this can be dangerous for other drivers. Get a friend to drive you while you track points.
